FAST provides a service to children on the edge of care and their parents. The service aims to keep families together and prevent the children coming into the care of the authority. FAST is the main provider of Family Support to Neath Port Talbot social work teams, and have had a direct influence in reducing the number of Looked After Children within the Authority. FAST offers community-based support services to pre-birth, young children and adolescents (up to 17years) and their parents referred by professionals across the County Borough of Neath Port Talbot. Services range from early preventative support to intensive work with families where there are serious concerns for children's safety or welfare; for some children the Project's support makes it possible for them to remain with their families rather than being accommodated by the Local Authority. Services included are Rapid Response/Edge of Care/Crisis Intervention, Parenting and Reunification. FAST also offers specific support in relation to Domestic Abuse and run groups for children affected by Domestic Abuse and Teen Star, which directly looks at healthy relationships and their own emotional well-being, making informed choices covering topics such as Child Sexual Exploitation, Internet Safety, ‘Sexting’ etc. Workers will also work with men around positive parenting, understanding their behaviour and healthy relationships as well as working with females. The post requires excellent communication and inter-personal skills and the postholder is required to build trusting relationships in the most difficult of circumstances with their service users. The post holder is also responsible for working very closely with other agencies such as health colleagues, the police, education providers etc. The post holder often assists in dealing with conflict resolution with families. Close liaison with all of the children’s social work teams is essential as are links with multi agencies including health, education and the police as well as third sector organisations. Workers manage their own caseload and all cases are tier 3, 4 in that they are ‘edge of care’, high end Care and Support, Child Protection, Public Law Outline, Looked After Children, Child Sexual Exploitation, complex needs and risky behaviour. The post requires an NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in a relevant discipline. Welsh language skills are not necessary. Neath Port Talbot Council is totally committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Our schools/employees are equally committed to ensuring the safety and protection of all children and young people/vulnerable adults and will take action to safeguard their wellbeing. The recruitment process for this post will be underpinned by rigorous safer recruitment assessment to ensure that children and young people are protected. This post is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service Enhanced Disclosure (Child/Adults). The post is temporary covering maternity leave for 6 months in the first instance. A secondment will be considered, however, applicants will need to have approval from their substantive manager prior to applying for the post.
