An opportunity for a Democratic Services Officer has become available to work within the Chief Executive’s Directorate of the Council. This is a great opportunity for you to join us and develop your career as we take forward new approaches to democracy and scrutiny within the Authority. This motivated and highly professional team is looking for an individual committed to excellence in their work and with a passion for governance and democratic involvement. If successful, you will assist across all aspects of democratic services, including joint scrutiny approaches. The post will also be an opportunity to help the Council deliver on its shared working with other partners, promoting and engaging with the public and delivering on the new ways of working required through the Local Government & Elections Act 2021. There will be responsibility for undertaking general administrative and support functions within the Democratic Services section.

The successful applicant will have excellent communication, written and oral skills and have considerable committee experience including minute taking and report writing. The use of Modern.gov and webcasting would be advantageous. You will need to demonstrate knowledge of local authority political and democratic structures and processes and have experience at dealing with sensitive issues in a complex organisation. You will need excellent interpersonal skills and experience at working in a sensitive political environment where minimal supervision will be needed. We are looking for an enthusiastic person who is tactful and diplomatic and has the ability to work to tight deadlines and changing priorities. You will have the ability to undertake research, investigative and administrative support. As part of the role in Democratic Services team, you will also have the opportunity to further develop your own skills and abilities through targeted continuous professional development

The post requires a degree or significant experience of Committee related and Overview and Scrutiny activities.
